With millions of people in New York City and its boroughs like The Bronx, it should be relatively easy to meet new people. Problem is, it can also be overwhelming and intimidating. We’ve got you covered. Here are some of the best places to meet new people in The Bronx.

If You Love the Arts

Without a doubt New York City has more than its share of amazing galleries and museums, but The Bronx is no slouch. If you love the Arts, and you’re new to The Bronx, one of the best places to meet like-minded people is the Bronx Museum of the Arts, with its focus on contemporary artists who are either Bronx-based or part of the many cultures that make up The Bronx.

If you prefer documentaries to rom-coms, then the Bronx Documentary Center is your place to be. Check out the exhibits, take a workshop or catch a film or three.

If performing arts is more your thing, then check out the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts. With programming including ballet, multicultural music, dance and performances it’s no wonder Thrillist named it the best Fine Arts venue. What better way to meet like-minded people while supporting the local arts community?

If You Love Sports

If you’re going to live in The Bronx, you better learn to cheer for the New York Yankees. Home field is Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, where fans are known as Bleacher Creatures, and they don’t take kindly to other teams’ fans. If you’re wearing a different team’s jersey, prepare to be heckled. 

If you want to meet people and get some exercise, the Co-Ed Bronx Pickup Softball group is a good way to accomplish your goals. If basketball is more your thing, ABC Hoops organizes indoor pickup games all over NYC and there’s sure to be a location close to your home or work.

And if you want to try something different, there is a Quidditch league in NYC. Originally a game invented by JK Rowling for the Harry Potter series of books, it is now an actual thing. You might have a bit of trouble sourcing a Firebolt Supreme, though.

One of the best facilities in the world, the Bronx Zoo has been around since 1899, and has 6,000 animals on 267 acres. It’s the subject of a popular tv show on Animal Planet called “The Zoo” which gives people an inside look at the zoo, its animals and the keepers.

If you have children, then the Bronx Children’s Museum is a must-see. With interactive displays, workshops, exhibits and activities, you can entertain your kids, and maybe meet some other parents while you’re at it.

The Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art and Storytelling started out as an initiative by the Broadway Housing Communities and Ellen Baxter to address the underserved communities in Upper Manhattan, including The Bronx.

By providing a space for neighborhood families to gather and take advantage of programming, children can create and learn about other cultures, hear stories and develop their creative intelligence and cognitive skills.

If You Love Craft Beer

Craft beer has become big business in recent years, and here are some of the best places in The Bronx, according to Yelp. If you’re into micro-brews and are new to the Bronx, here are some of your soon-to-be-favorite places.

Gun Hill Brewing Company - Opened in 2004, the Gun Hill Brewing Company was the first location since the 1960s to brew in-house. They have produced a number of GABF gold, silver and bronze medal-winning beers, and produced the 2021 Best American IPA in New York State. It received 4.5 stars from Yelp.

Bronx Drafthouse - With 30 craft beers on tap, as well as 20 in cans, the Bronx Drafthouse earns 4 stars from Yelp. They are conveniently located close to Yankee Stadium.

The Bronx Brewery - With a commitment to “Community, Creativity and Inclusivity,” it’s no wonder The Bronx Brewery garners 4 stars from Yelp.

If You Love the Outdoors

There are lots of amazing places to explore in The Bronx, and many make great date spots.

New York Botanical Garden - Since 1891, the New York Botanical Garden has been dedicated to preserving plants, research, horticulture and plant science. The 250-acre garden is a National Historic Landmark, but is also home to over 100 Ph.D-level researchers working on 250 international collaborations in 49 countries.

There are both indoor and outdoor gardens, as well as the Bronx Greenup community garden outreach program, which provides assistance and expertise to establish community gardens in the community.

Van Cortlandt Park - Van Cortlandt Park, home to the Bronx’s oldest building built in 1748 to 1749, is 1,146 acres of walking and hiking trails, the oldest municipal golf course in the U.S., and the largest freshwater lake in the borough. There are three dog runs in the park, so bring your furry buddies along.

Bronx Equestrian Center - Trail ride? Check. Lessons? Check. Therapeutic riding? Check. Hay rides or carriage? Check. The Bronx Equestrian Center has a bit of everything if you love horses, or have always harboured a secret desire to learn to ride. They also offer boarding services.
